Terms of Use
Effective 19 October 2026
These terms apply to the Vocalizer app for macOS ("the app") and this website ("the site"), provided by the Vocalizer project ("we", "us"). By downloading or using the app, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
1. License
Vocalizer is free, open source software. The app's code is licensed under the MIT License, which lets you use, copy, modify and share it under that license's conditions. Some parts come from other projects and keep their own licenses:
- Audio device (video sync): based on BlackHole by Existential Audio, under the GNU GPL v3. Its full modified source is in the repository.
- Vocal models: UVR MDX-Net by the Ultimate Vocal Remover team (MIT), and MelBand RoFormer by Kimberley Jensen (MIT).
- Calls mode: DeepFilterNet by Hendrik Schröter (MIT / Apache 2.0).
- Updates: Sparkle by the Sparkle Project (MIT).
Where these terms and an open source license differ, the open source license governs your rights to that code.
2. Your responsibilities
- Use Vocalizer for lawful, personal listening. You are responsible for the content you play through it and for following the terms of the services you use, such as streaming platforms.
- Vocalizer changes how audio sounds on your own Mac as it plays. It is not designed to copy, record, extract or redistribute anyone's content, and you must not use it to infringe copyright or other rights.
3. What to expect
- Music removal is automatic and not perfect: traces of music may remain, and parts of voices may be affected, especially with reverb, backing vocals or choirs.
- Mute swear words uses speech recognition and can miss words or mute words that are not swearing. Don't rely on it where every word must be filtered.
- Modes add a short delay to sound. Video sync hides it in most video players, but not in games, live calls or apps that ignore the audio device's delay.
- Vocalizer requires a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 14.2 or later. Features may change or be removed in future versions.
4. No warranty
The app and the site are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise that the app will be error-free, uninterrupted, or compatible with every Mac, app or audio device.
5. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, audio, hearing comfort, use or profits, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app or the site. Because the app is free, our total liability for any claim is limited to zero. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.
6. Hearing safety
Removing music can make voices sound louder or quieter than before. Start at a low volume, especially with headphones, and adjust carefully.
7. Third parties and trademarks
Vocalizer is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Apple, YouTube, Spotify or any other service it works with. Their names are trademarks of their owners and are used only to describe compatibility. Downloads and updates are delivered through GitHub, under GitHub's own terms.
8. Changes and ending use
We may update these terms; the effective date above will change when we do, and continuing to use the app means you accept the updated terms. You can stop using Vocalizer at any time by quitting it and deleting it.
